Beginning (again) to do music (either Reason or Logic) on my 2008 MBP (2.4 GHz, 2GB ram) - need advice on upgrading (ram, etc).

Looking to re-start recording music on my MacBookPro. Bought it new in '08, 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 2 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM, 160 GB Intel hard drive. I'm thinking about buying a new battery (this is my second one, and it's shot), upgrading RAM, and buying a new, larger/faster hard drive. I currently have Logic Express(9) and Reason 4, with Record 1.5. I could really use some advice on what recording software to use/upgrade, and advice on any hardware upgrades.

PS - I can't afford a computer upgrade, and shouldn't have to. This MBP should be powerful enough for simple demo work and stuff for local talent shows, etc.
