Is there any method by which I can know which of my freinds has a facetime account without calling anyone of them. .Is the facetime similar to skype by which it can import contacts from someone's email contact list?

The Contacts App has an option to call a contact using FaceTime. However I do not know of any way to know if someone has a facetime account. Further, you can not tell if your friend has the FaceTime program running without calling them. Skype is better in both respects. In additon, FaceTime only works over WiFi.
