My son has an iPhone that when he did a restore it would not activate.  we tried a few sims and nothing doing. Is there a way of finding out what carier it is locked to so that maybe we can get an official unlock?

iPhone 4, iOS 4.3.3

Only the carrier an iPhone is locked to can authorize the phone's official unlocking. Where did you originally obtain this phone?

Got the phone from a tourist, so no way of getting back to them to find out whom is locked to

I am aware is why I am attempting to find out who it is locked to...

    Model is MC603B

Well, I don't know what to tell you...where was the "tourist" from? Model numbers are meaningless in trying to determine the origin of an iPhone. At one time they were an indicator, but that's no longer true.

Tourist was presumably from US but we tried at&t and verizon chips no luck...

My own is from UK and had that factory unlocked so running sweet...LOL I was hoping there was some site that could give us this info...

If from the US, the phone would be locked to AT&T...not Verizon, Verizon is CDMA, thus no sim card.
