I am part of the apple dev program and have been so since about July this year. I have been using iOS5 beta 7 all fine until last night when now it wants me to reactivate but fails with the error message: "The device is not registered as part of the iPhone Developer program. ##br####br## If you are a registered member of the program, please register you device at apple.com.... blah blah blah..." But my UDID (or whatever it is called) is registered and it has been working for about 5 months now.

I experienced the same thing.

I have an active developers account from when I was dabbling with making an app a couple of months ago, and my dev account is still active. I installed the ios5 b7 release, and then when the final release came out I updated my phone as soon as it was released. As far as I am aware my phone is (was) running the final public version of ios5.

Today I was boarding a plane to fly from Sydney Australia to Toronto Canada for a family funeral and as I did a last minute email check before takeoff the phone just turned itself off without warning and restarted itself, asking for activation over either wifi or iTunes, and showed the errr message mentioned above. Being out of wifi range, I couldn't do anything at the time. I connected to iTunes upon arrival in Vancouver, but still had the same error. Phone refused to backup, and it told me that I was already running the latest version of the os.

I have since gone to the apple dev site, logged in and registered my phone. No difference.

Eventually, looking through the thread here, it doesn't seem like there is much I can do, since the backup of the phone is on my computer back in Sydney and I need my phone to function for the next few days here in Canada. I ended up restoring the phone completely, after saving all my photos to iPhoto. I know I'll lose a bunch of other stuff, and have to waste a lot of time reinstalling apps, etc. Thank goodness all my calendars and contacts and mail are stored on Google's servers.

As far as I can tell I did all the updates as I should have, i had a fully registered and legal phone connected to a fully registered and legal dev account. This should not ave happened and I'm a little ****** off that it did.

I'd be very interested to hear how many other people had this problem, and whether Apple has anything to add. (I won't hold my breath waiting for that)
