My files all showing as locked. How do I unlock?

I copied all of my folders from and external hard drive to a Time Capsule. Now every time I open a file it says "locked". When I do a get info, all files and folders show as not locked. Is there a way to unlock all of my files and folders on the Time Capsule? I also tried coping them to the MacBookand they all stay as locked.

When I did some more reading, I found the following.

I can not get step 4 to be on one line.

Mac OS X 10.4 or later

  1. Start in single-user mode; for instructions see Mac OS X: How to Start up in Single-User or Verbose Mode.
  2. Type this, followed by Return: mount -uw /
  3. Type this, followed by Return:
    cd /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration
  4. Type this, on a single line, followed by Return:
defaults write /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/autodiskmount AutomountDisksWithoutUserLogin -bool true
  5. Type this, followed by Return: sh /etc/rc
  6. Wait for the on screen text to stop scrolling and then press Return
  7. Type this, followed by Return:
    find / -flags schg -exec chflags noschg {} \;
  8. Once this is finished, type this followed by Return:
    rm /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/autodiskmount.plist
  9. Type this followed by Return: reboot

Not sure about the Time Capsule, but on your Mac launch /Applications/Utilities/Terminal.app and at the prompt

copy and paste this command...

sudo chflags -R nouchg

leave a space at the end then drag the folder into the terminal window, it will show the path.

Press return

You'll be prompted for your password. It will be invisible.

Press return.

Thanks for the reply!

I ran sudo chflags -R nouchg on the high level folder, entered my password, and waited. When I was returned to the command prompt, I tried to open one of the documents again. As soon as text editor opens, the file is marked locked. I checked other file types as well. Everything is locked. I must be missing something.

From my experience with Time Capsules it sound like the actual folders / files you copied had some sort of permissions attached, if you get info on the folder on the Time Capsule, unlock the padlock down the bottom (possibly with the username and password from the computer you copied from), adjust the priviledges and select apply to all enclosed items (button with small gear lower left).

If that fails I would create a new folder on the Time Capsule then copy the files you want into it eliminating the locked folder going accross.
