brighten external monitor

I have a 2010 27 iMac with new OS, and I just got a Samsung 24 inch LED external monitor, with DVI cable.

The monitor is just not as bright as the Mac monitor. Bothers me. The brightness is turned up to 100%.

I used the same photo as screen saver on both monitors and the difference in brightness is noticable.

My old monitor had this problem, and I had hoped that a brand new monitor would solve it. Did not.

The clarity is fine, but it is just not as bright as I am used to.

Any solutions?

Lower the brighness on the iMac to aproximate the one on the new monitor.

Give your eyes time to get used to it.

Or

Photoshop the background picture and make a copy that is brighter and use it for the new monitor or dim the copy for the iMac.
