Migration Assistant: PC to Mac with ethernet?

In a few months I'll be buying a Macbook Pro. When I using Migration assistant to move all of my files from my PC to the Macbook Pro I'll be using ethernet because that's the fastest data I/O that my PC has. When I do the transfer, do I have to plug the Mac and PC into my Airport Extreme or can I directly connect the Macbook Pro and PC with one end of the ethernet cable plugged into the Macbook Pro and the other end of the cable plugged into my PC?

IIRC, the folks at the Apple store have a service available that can do this transfer for you.

Also see HT2518 and Switch 101 for some related details.

Alternatively, dual-boot your MacBook Pro between Mac OS X and Windows, either via Boot Camp or via a Virtual Machine. That will let you continue to use the inevitable few Windows applications, until you can replace them.
