How do I make a new contact listed by company?

I just added a contact to my iPod Touch. It's a company, not an individual. How do I get the iOS Contacts to list it that way?

iPod touch, iOS 4.3.3, iOS 4.3.5

Although it was not clearly explained upthread, Kenneth, what you have to do is this:

1) Create a new contact with the company name only, and SAVE

This will create a "business" card/record rather than an "person" card/record

2) After the card has been created, open it again, and now you can add a person's name to the card and it wll remain a "business" card.

Given that mobile-platform apps are going to be somewhat under-powered compared to their desktop equivelents, I guess this isn't too much of a burden. Just one extra step. But Apple sure doesn't go out of their way to make it clear, do they?

100 Watt Walrus, Nope if you add the name afterwards it just moves the business to a personal name contact. Not really helpful if you have more than one contact person in a large company.

Kenneth, try this:

If you want both, with business as primary, but a name of contact, set it up this way:

Fill Company name only

Add phone numbers

scroll down to add "related name", tap on +

now you can enter the job title as a custom label. You notice the circle with an i in the middle, this allows you to link any number of individual contacts to the business.

see if that does the job.

I can duplicate the process I described.

In my iPod Touch 4G, running iOS 6.1.3, I just created a brand new entry in the native Contacts app called "Qqq Co." I entered just the name and an email address. The card was created as a Business.

I went out of that record to my general list, and the record is filed under Q.

I then tapped to get back into the record, tapped [Edit], then added first name "Bob" and last name "A," then tapped [Done].

RESULT:

In the card, I still see a generic Business icon, I see "Qqq Co" in bold at the top, and below that, "Bob A" in smaller gray type.

When I exit the record and go back to the list, "Qqq Co" is still listed in the Qs. And there is no "Bob A" in the As.

This used to be the work-around solution to this common complaint, but it no longer works in iOS 7. I wish you could just create a business card from the start, but now I'm longing for the days where there was at least a work-around. The weird thing is, my contacts list still has remnants from the past, where I have company contacts with associated first and last names that still sort by company. It's only newly created contacts where this is impossible. So frustrating to not be able to achieve basic things like this.
