Hacking is legal. Using a pirated copy of iOS 5 would not be.
When you buy an apple product you should have support till your device is dead and by support i mean updates.
OK, then Apple will charge you twice as much for the device to provide for those "perpetual" updates. And cripple all future updates to allow them to work on old hardware. TANSTAAFL.

Your definition of hacking is very vague and misleading that's not neccessarly true... though mostly it is legal. Also iOS 5 is free software therefore you cannot PIRATE something that's free that's like saying there being a table with free baloons and you take one without asking someone then saying that's stealing, don't be stupid.
Apple doesn't charge me a dime for updates so I don't see what kind of drugs you are on brother, the devices apple sells they put about 50$ of parts at the maximum in and sell them for 200$ they make so much of a markup profit in their sales they should atleast allow us to have all of our devices updated I mean as time progresses on we're on iPod 4G now maybe 1G shouldn't be updated but keep in within range but once say iPod 5G is out kill support for the 2G you see what I'm getting at here? Honestly they don't have to cripple the firmware that badly that shows me how little you know about the development process of software and how much time you've spent dicected an iPod and the firmware it runs on you really have no idea how cheap and flimsy these devices really are inside and out Apple CANNOT complain they aren't making money.
