Bought an iPad for my Mom...

Hi all:
Just bought an iPad for my 86 year old Mom for her birthday. She has a MacBook at home and I will sync everything for her when I get there for her birthday. But in the meantime, I want to load it up with some books, movies and photographs so that it will work right when she opens the box.

I turned it on, plugged it in, but get a prompt to connect to iTunes. I don't have access to her computer and fear that connecting it to mine will cause all kinds of problems down the road.

How do I get past that "connect to iTunes" image?

Thanks for any help you can provide.

You need to activate in iTunes, there is currently no way around that. Yes, you can only sync with one computer but all you need to do is have a backup of all the content you put onto the iPad. Then just transfer to her computer and all should be fine

Problem is, I did this and now the iPad is connected to MY iTunes account. How can I reset it so it is linked to my Mom's iTunes account and not mine? I restored it in the hopes that "returning it to factory settings" would sever the connection betwen it and my iTunes account but it didn't.

Once you have access to her computer, you will be able to sync it to her iTunes account.

So I can go ahead and download stuff for her using my iTunes account and it won't be lost when I sync it with her iTunes account? If that were true, I would go ahead and pay for stuff to download to her iPad as part of her birthday present - but somehow I think they won't stay on her iPad if bought with my iTunes account. Am I wrong?

As long as you backup the files and move them to her computer and then re-sync it will put them back on the iPad.

Isn't there a way to disconnect the iPad from my iTunes account and connect it with hers without using her computer?

You can sign in and purchase apps using her account. Then authorize your computer for the account to transfer purchases, back up and transfer. Then sync using her computer.

Any apps purchased under your account cannot be transferred to hers

On the iPad go into Settings > Store , tap your account on the right-hand side of that screen and log out of it, and then log in with hers. On your computer you can sign out of your account via Store > Sign Out and then Store > Sign In to sign in with hers.
