Hello,
i am trying to wipe the DNS on a snow leopard server to then reconfigure it so that it will be able to point to its self etc for hosting open directory.
does anyone know how to do this?
by terminal ?

i now have a reverse zone and primary zone with no nameserver hostnames in them and it will not let me put it in...
What is happening when you try to put the nameserver hostnames in? Are the fields greyed out? Do the changes not stick when you hit save?
Can you attach a screen shot of what's happening?
when you hit save they dont stick, then comes up with cant save cos there no named severs..
That's the exact issue I had that caused me to have to start over w/ DNS, and prompted my writeup.
You didn't skip the reboot at step 6, did you?

What are the permissions on /etc/named.conf?

but i have had to reinstall the hole thing as it is needed tomorrow, ive just got it back up and seams to be working for now, i just hope that for what ever reason it went like that wont happen again.
thanks for your help, it still annoying me cos i know it can be done putting commands in and it will wipe the DNS and let you start again i just couldn't find the commands any where.
Ahh, I think your problems were with permissions. It should be system:wheel, with 755 permissions. I will make sure I add the permissions into my writeup.

New iMac - newest JAVA when I go to play a game the circular colored pointer keeps going round and round - which to me would indicate a stall -- and can no longer play Scrabble (basic game) I keep getting a JAVA log - I do not see the Java Empty Cache for browser in Safari as instructions mentioned -
Hi Dotv. I think you have posted this in the wrong form page.
I would say to fix it download and install again java.
Also the "circular colored pointer" as you put it or Beachball what ever you call it means the computer is doing the Process. I.e the egg timer in windows or in new windows a Spinning wheel.
