Why won't my keys illuminate?
F5 and F6 won't work on my keyboard. It shows up with a symbol that is a circle with a line through it. Can anyone tell me how to fix this problem?

F5 & F6 are to adjust keyboard backlighting. But only when the keyboard backlighting is on in a darkened room. It sounds like the keyboard backlighting is off because the Mac has detected you're in a well lit room. (IOW, Try turning off the room lights.)
Mine stopped working about 2-3 monts ago. Not long after I had a new logic board installed. I have the ability to increase or decrease the brightness - ie not the zero symbol you described but still the keys don't illuminate. Holding my hands over the 2 grills, either side of the keyboard (to simulate darkness), dims the screen but dies not illuminate the keys :-((

But do you get anything appear on screen when you press F5 or F6? If not, then this is not the same problem as the OP. You should probably start a new thread. Of if you think it's related to the board replacement, take it in for servicing again.
Hi,
yes, I'm able to "increase" and "decrease" the keyboard brightness but the keyboard is not lit. F5 & F6 work as they should do.
As the light sensors are working - screen dims in a dark room or when the sensors are covered, I'm guessing the actual backlight is the problem

That doesn't make any sense. If the keyboard is not lit, how are you able to increase the keyboard's brightness? (Not the screen's brightness, they keyboard.)
And again, instead of hijacking (threadjacking) someone else's thread, it would have been best to start your own question. Particularly since you say that F5 & F6 work work as they should, when the OP claimed that F5 & F6 did NOT work as they should, which is the opposite of what you're claiming.
I wasn't aware I was hijacking someone elses thread. The thread stated and still does "Why won't my keys illuminate?" I was asking the same question. Though the symptoms I have differ slightly the route cause/solution may have been the same.
And now my F5/F6 doesn't work as of yesterday

You're symptoms are VERY different if you say you are able to increase the keyboard's brightness. In fact, by that description from you, everything is working correctly, thus there is no further answer possible. The OP's issue is that one can NOT change the keyboard's brightness. You say you can, thus you are saying that your problem is different.
