iTUNES "Session has timed out" issue

Since changing my Apple ID and password, I can't purchase songs or manage my account, or do anything without getting the message "Your session has timed out. Try again". This has never happened before. What is going on?! I know my OS and iMAC are old but it was all working fine till this.

iMac, Mac OS X (10.4.11)

I figured it out! The problem seemed to be that my old iTUNES and OS X wouldn't talk to the new Terms and Conditions on iTUNES. So I went on my husband's iMAC (newer) and logged onto my account there. It let me make the updates to my account, click and agree to the Terms and Conditions, and that solved the problem. Hope this helps someone else. I get to hold off buying a new iMAC for another while...but the time bomb is still ticking, I know...

If you don't mind me asking, how old is your mac? I am currently having the same issue, only I don't have a newer computer to log onto to attempt to resolve this issue. I am in the stone ages, haven't even upgraded to snow leopard, that should be done by sometime next week, pretty much just so that I can then upgrade to lion. Hoping that resolves the issue.

It's a 2 GHz PowerPC G5 from 2004 w/ 512 MB DDR SDRAM. Running Tiger and iTUNES 9. I think as long as you have the Intel processor (mine does not) you should be OK upgrading your OS. In the meantime if you have a friend or coworker with a more recent Mac (or even an iPHONE) you might ask them to borrow it for a few minutes and try logging on to your iTUNES account on that? I am convinced that the only issue was being able to accept the new Terms and Conditions. Good luck!

I am having the same problems when trying to purchase music from iTunes. I am running iTunes 9.2.1 on OS 10.4.11. I have just tried to log into my account settings to see if anything has changed and if I try to edit any of the settings I am getting the same error. Can you suggest anything other than upgrading to Leopard or Snow Leopard? Thanks....

Anne - thanks so much, it worked!! I borrowed my son's computer (Dell) and was able to agree to the terms/agreement.

Kris - I too am running on 10.4.11, my upgrade to snow leopard is in the mail now. Of course that is still outdated software and really is just a stepping stone to lion. I've known for a while that I needed to upgrade, but now it seems I no longer had a choice.

I kept receiving a timeout message when agreeing to New Terms using iTunes on the desktop. Went to iTunes on the iPod Touch (iOS 4.1), made a purchase, agreed to new terms, Done. iTunes on the desktop now doesn't ask to agree to new terms since I agreed via the app. Now, the iMac I use for iPod Touch sync is a iMac G5 running Mac OSX 10.4.11 with iTunes 9.2.1. Yeah, I know. I have the new iMac right over there, but I haven't switched my syncing allegiance just yet. I will once the iOS 5 dust settles.

I also got a "timed out session" message on my itunes and could not buy any songs. I was told I needed to by a new computer or update my own. Instead, (with the help of this web site) I went to a friends house and he authorized me to use his computer (he had a newer computer and a new version of Itunes) After he authorized me to use his computer I logged into Itunes using my ID and Password agreed to the terms and bought a song! It worked!!! Now I can buy songs on my old computer when I log into my itunes! I want to thank this web site for helping do this. No apple support person knew about solving this problem.

@Claude34 - THANKS! Great tip. I had been trying to get a decent answer from iTunes Support for as long as you, aand every answer started with, "X referred your problem to me..." Every day there was a new person "handling" the problem.

I only had to delete the Apple cookies, not all of them. First I deleted the iTunes cookie and left the security checks, but that did nothing (restarted both). Then I deleted the Apple cookies AND unchecked everything. After restarting the two apps it worked. Then I turned the security back on and it still works. That makes me think it was the Apple cookies.

Anybody out there who hasn't done this yet, check the dates on your cookies and send them in to iTunes support. They'll probably figure out which one is causing the problem, and maybe even send out an updated set for 9.2/10.4 user (Ha ha ha ha ha ha!).
