"Error joining network" with G4 DA

Just popped an Airport card into the PowerMac G4 Digital Audio I am "rehabbing." I have it running OSX Tiger at the moment. Card is recognized, but I get the message "error joining network." My network has a WPA2 Personal password, and the dialog box coming up on the DA does not give me that option, it is only WEP. Could that be the problem, and if so, can anyone help me with the solution? Or could it be something else? Thanks!

Thanks, BDAqua. You know, I love Apple... but this is the kind of stuff that drives me nuts. I can't via Airport Utility set use anything but WPA, and there is no WPA option on the G4.

I really don't want a dongle if I don't have to use one. When you say "some can do WPA," how do I determine if mine will? And Is a firmware option an option here? Thanks again.

WPA may not show up until there is a WPA network, then under the Airport icon choose Join Other Network, or Other depending on OS version.

If it isn't available then either Airport needs an update or the card does.

At the Apple Icon at top left>About this Mac.

Then click on More Info>Network, on the right click on Airport, down below you'll find something like this...

AirPort Card Information:

Wireless Card Type: AirPort Extreme (0x14E4, 0x4318)

Wireless Card Locale: USA

Wireless Card Firmware Version: Broadcom BCM43xx 1.0 (4.170.25.8)

Current Wireless Network: AispWork1.3

Wireless Channel: 11

PS. those dongles far surpass Airport cards for Speed & Range. 😉

Thanks again.

Somehow... bingo.

I chose the network under the Airport icon, and from there it gave me a WPA option for my current netowkr, did not have to use "other." The WPA option was not there under the Network preferences or other places, for whatever reason. I reset my Airport Extreme to WPA/WPA2, instead of just WPA2 and then the G4 connected right up.

All seems fine. Appreciate the help.
