Apple TV 2 will not play purchased videos from an authorized computer

I have been trying all night to get purchased videos from an authorized computer play on my Apple TV 2. My computer is authorized and I have not reached my limit of authorized computers. I even went as far as to completly reset all the settings on my Apple TV; the music plays fine and it can list all my availible video content but as soon as I select a video of any kind it gives me the following error: Authorization is Required. You must authorize your computer with the account used to purchased the content. I am going crazy, I can access the same videos from my Home Sharing on my iPhone or from another computer using iTunes. I have tried deauthorizing the computer several times with no luck. Any suggestions?

also could be your HDMI cable......

from another thread.....so exactly what does your Apple TV say to you exactly, when it won't play the movies???

"If this is for the new ATV2, then the cable you use to connect to your TV must be HDCP capable. Some are. Some aren't. I bought a cheap one that was not and it didn't work. I bought a slightly more expensive one that was HDCP compliant and all is fine now.

From the ATV webpage:

Compatible with high-definition TVs with HDMI and capable of 720p 60/50Hz (see note 2)

Bottom of page.

Note 2: Requires HDCP when playing protected content.

No, it does not say that... diffrent problem that I am having as well. It says go authorize your computer where the content is on. Well the computer IS autorized. The content plays on the computer in iTunes, but will not play on Apple TV 2 becasue somewhere the message is not getting through properly. Ive turned on and off, unathorized, reauthorized, signed in signed out, updated and reset. Same message. I can even see the same content as purchased and down loadable in the Apple TV 2 but will have to wait 4 hours while it downloads to the Apple TV 2, even though its right on the Apple Laptop in the other room already downloaded and ready to stream. So frustrating. Im going to try and put it on my iPhone or iPad and try and airplay it. Will it still be HD??? Yeah right...

Same problem here. Worked tonight for about 30min and then the TV show that I was watching simply quit. When I attempted resume viewing, I received the same message that I needed to authorize my computer that obviously is already authorized and has been for months. When this occurs, I also can't sign in to the iTunes Store through the Apple TV. Is there something going on with the Apple Authorization Servers ? Is there even such a thing ?

Interesting.. I started having the same problem tonight for the first time after rebooting my wireless network and the ATV2 due to network issues. Then I got the same authorizition message that others are getting. Came here for help, tried deauthorizing and reaurthorizing my computer. I wonder if, due to the timing, this is something on Apple's end.

BTW, I have a HDCP capable HDMI cable.

Whatever is going on here started between Thursday and Friday. Thursday I downloaded my TV shows and watched a couple Thursday night. Last night no luck. Went through the drill of resetting everything (we are used to this now, yeah?), de-authorize, re-authorize etc. to no avail. This morning same thing. I suppose there is some solice in knowing that other folks are having the same issues. Let's just hope Apple gets this sorted out soon.

Same problem here. Was watching an awful Transformers on living room ATV 2, put the baby to bed and started the movie on bedroom ATV 2 and got the "authorization is required". I tried everything mentioned here. The only workaround I found was to play the content from the Mac that has the iTunes library and use AirPlay to stream to the ATV of choice. This better be a temporary bug. It's especially frustrating given the fact that MobileMe was out all last night.

I'm starting to get frustrated, I came to the apple ecosystem because of the "it just works" way of doing things. When you're so invested, having all your content in iTunes, using ATVs, and IOS devices, these bugs should not happen. Come on Apple, get your stuff together.

Again, this bug only affects content purchased from the iTunes store and not other local content on the home share. The fix is to start playing from the iTunes library on the machine itself, and choosing the ATV using AirPlay.

Had the same problem that started last night. Feverishly worked on it for hours. I must say I am a bit relieved to have others having a similar problem. This might not help you but in the mean time until Apple makes a fix, I was able to get my purchased movies to play by using the apple remote on my iPhone or iPad. You can select your library and then the movie and then select it to go to the apple tv via airplay. Not ideal, but my daughter doesn't care how Tangled is getting played, she just wants it on the big tv.
