how do i recover source clips
I recorded some film for a video and accidently trashed some or most of the file. Is there any way of getting it back on my macbook?

If you were running Time Machine, you can get it back. Just select the Events folder and go back in time until you find this Event. Then Revert.
Aslo,
If you have not yet emptied the trash, you may be able to drag it out of the trash, and back to the Movies/iMovie Events folder. This may or may not work depending on how much free disk space you have.
