Just started happening to me... three times now, after my computer sleeps, my display won't awaken. Have to set computer sleep to 'never' or else juggle around with the power switch, opening and closing clamshell, etc. Funny thing is that my TB drives and FW800 drives and USB ports are still recongized - it just the display. Have filed bug report with Apple but haven't heard back.

It was working so well for so long - and now this...

Same problem over here. The TB display doesn't wake up after my MBP wakes up after slumbering...

Very annoying, please fix this issue Apple!

Only thing that works for me is to disconnect and reconnect the TB cable from my MBP. I hope this won't ruin my cable.

Please keep in mind: we're talking about a €999,- display here.

My problem with simply unplugging the cable is that I have four Thunderbolt drives and two FW800 drives connected via my ATD 'hub' - so I have to open the clamshell to unmount the volumes before I can disconnect the cable - and, even then, disconnecting and reconnecting the cable doesn't always bring the display to life: sometimes I have to disconnect the display from power.

It's really frustrating - to avoid the problem, I've just been allowing my MBP to run 24/7 without sleeping: hoping for a remedy soon.

    Hi everybody,

When I first complained, long time ago,  I spent hours online and on phone call with them. They checked/uploaded everything from my MBP, then... nothing ! I never got any follow-up.

I keep getting these post from people with that same problem, but where is the solution?

Meanwhile I keep my MBP always connected and closed out of fear that perhaps the TB wont wake up again.  :-(

If anyone meanwhile received an OFFICIAL solution, then please let us know.

    Thanks.

I have a suspicion about this.

With the screen connected try this. Open your MacBook screen, then go to System Prefs / Displays. Click 'Arrangement' then turn on mirroring. Wait for the display to settle, then close the MB. The Thunderbolt screen will revert to its proper settings.

Does that solve the wake after sleep issue?

    Nope - I've tried that...

I've had two problems with my THB during the past year. Firstly, a few months ago, the display went fuzzy as if the layers under the glass were separating. Frightening. But I live in Phuket, Thailand, where the humidity can be high. So I turned on the air con and a dehumidifier, and  within an hour the fuzziness started to reduce. After two hours, it had gone and so far hasn't returned.

Then yesterday, the screen suddenly went black while in use. No green/orange light on the mag connector, no response. On checking the display settings in system preferences, no THB recognised. Basically there were all the symptoms of a power supply failure. On reading the little white book, I noted that the humidity range is 10-80%. Now 80% is not high is many parts of the world. Maybe it is in California in the Apple ivory tower, but not in the real world. So I repeated my solution of months ago - turn on a/c and dehumidifier. This morning, bingo, it was all working again.

So it could be that many of the problems I've read about on these forums are environmental. Worth a try, anyway before lugging your THB to the Apple store.

Come on, Apple, if you are going to sell your products in places where the climate can be a challenge, make them a bit more robust. It shouldn't be too difficult.

Hope that more prosaic solution helps someone out there.

I'm no longer having problems with the 'sleep' issue. I think that everything will be 'fixed' with the release of 10.8.3 (which has been under development for over four-five months now - who knows when it will be released?).

10.8.3 installed. Still having problems. Just woke up my mbp and boom, external monitor didn't turn on. So frustrating!!

After I installed the final version of 10.8.3 (I've been running the developer betas for four months or so) I, too, had the problem resurface tonight. I've already filed one bug report (on a previous version of 10.8.3) now it looks as if I'll have to file another.

I've been refferring to these discussion boards following repeated issues with Thuderbolt display not being recognised as connected by either Air or new MBP.  I tried many suggestions in the discussion groups, to no consistent improvement, but have finally resolved my issues with a new Thunderbolt cable (€50!) connecting the thuderbolt output on back of screen to laptop.  Strangely, the original cable begins to work fine after 'waking the screen'.  Frustrating stuff here from Apple,

I'm experiencing the same problem. Have tried everything on these threads to no avail. I am using a 2011 MBP in "clamshell" mode. Most of the time, the TBD awakes from sleep. But, at least once per day, I'm forced to unplug the TB cable and plug it back in to awake the TBD. Now joy on the upgrade to 10.8.3. Luckily, the TBD is new, and I have an APP. I will keep asking for new ones until it is fixed! :-)

I use a wired keyboard, and plugging the keyboard into the MBA's USB port instead of using the Thunderbold Display's hub seems to work and wake it up OK. Not ideal but a good workaround.

    Hi guys,

You should gather on this thread, as many users have the same kind of issue, not only with wake up:

    Cheers.

    Friends,

I have started the process of working trough AppleCare to deal with this issue on my new TB display. Of course, they had me reset the NVRAM and SMC (which I had already done). Will post progress here, but I don't have high expectations.
