Cant play DvDs on my mac.

I tried with 3 cds but there is only a message that says SUPPORTED DISC NOT AVAILABLE

and when i insert any dvd it is supposed to open the dvd player automatically

what can i do?

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.7.1)
