So you propose that I create a new calendar and then select that calendar every time I have to make an appointment in that calendar and then change to a different calendar each time I have a different type of event.

OR the software developers over at Apple make my life easy instead of me jumping through hoops and I just click on an event and click a button to color it whatever I want.

No, this is ALL the fault of Apple and their naming system. It APPEARS that you have to create a new calendar each time you want a different event type in a new colour, but that's because Apple in their "wisdom" calls all such things 'Calendars'.

The only calendar you see in iCal is a combination of those other "calendars" with each one being a different colour. What they should have done - it would be FAR LESS confusing - is simply call those 'sub calendars' event types which makes much more sense.

So no, you DON'T have to click each "calendar" to see a type of event - you in fact see them all together. There's only one calendar. Just create a new "calendar" (event type) each time you want something to be in a different colour, and you will see it in the "calendar" list on the left. But what you actually see in the main view is a combination of all of those together. THAT's the real calendar.

Actually, this is a problem if you're using Exchange:

http://support.apple.com/kb/PH4746

"If your iCal calendars are administered through a Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 with Service Pack 1 or later (for example, through your workplace), you have a main Exchange calendar named Calendar, and a main reminder list named Tasks.

You can add calendars to your Exchange calendar account. However, you won’t be able to see updated invitations or attendee responses for the events in these additional calendars. Also, events in the additional calendars won’t be visible to delegates and won’t appear when other users check your availability. You can only use these features in your Exchange calendar named Calendar."

So in my case, I'm not able to create calendars of other colors as they will not be reflected back to the Exchange server.

I've been reading threads for 2 hours trying to solve this color coding problem and I'm more confused than before I began.

I understand the color coding for individual calendars, but in Year-View multi-day events created on different "Calendars" within iCal all show Yellow even though Yellow is not a Color Code for either of the displayed calendars.

I've attached a screenshot of my calendar for 2015 with 2 Calendars enabled Work is Green and Play is Orange. I have multi-day events in each calendar but they all show up as the same color. How can I change the color of the Events to reflect the different events?

I'm not syncing to anything else, I'm not sharing or anything else, this is just on my own Mac ONLY.

Here is the same calendar with my Work Calendar turned off

Any suggestions on how to make all events from a particular calendar show up as the color I selected for the calendar would be appreciated.
