Can't Hear Live Guitar on Amplifier

I've connected my guitar to my iPad 2 via an iRig. I've connected the iRig to my amplifier via an 1/8"-to-miniplug cable. With this setup, I can hear previously-recorded GarageBand tracks (not to mention any other kind of iPad audio like the iPad app), but I can't hear LIVE guitar playing via GarageBand. If I disconnect the 1/8"-to-miniplug cable and plug headphones into the iRig, I CAN hear live guitar via GarageBand. What do I have to do to hear live playing on my guitar amp?

iPad 2, iOS 4.3.2, 32GB, Wi-Fi

Tap the image of the jack plug at the top-left of the amp screen, turn the monitor on. Works for mic input modes too.

I tried your suggestion before even posting here, but it didn't work. 😟

What I don't understand is why I can hear prerecorded GB tracks in the amp, AND I can hear live playing with the headphones, but not live playing when plugged into an amp.
