PowerPC G4 startup issues

Hello all,

I have a Dual 1 GHz PowerPC G4 running OS 10.4.11. Once it's running it works great, it's getting it to startup that's sometimes a problem. If I shut it down then try and restart I have to let it sit for about an hour or so to restart. I've replaced the battery several times. When it dose start the power lights come on then they go off for a few secs then back on, also the monitor stays black and then the computer boots up and everything is fine. I also replaced the large fan about a year ago. I also don't hear the startup chime but my internal speaker is shot, I do have a usb sound system hooked up but dose that get loaded after the hardware check?

If you unplug everything from it including AC power, monitor, PRAM Battery, Printer, etc. & let it set a few minutes, does it start right up after attaching things again?

Have you done a PRAM reset, CMD+Option+p+r...

Hi, BD

Yes, I've done the pram/cuda reset. I haven't tried to boot into Open Firmware, sometimes soon as I release the power button it shuts off, sometimes it gets to loading the usb items then shuts off. When I replaced the battery the first time I reset the cuda waited 30 minutes put the battery in, hooked everything up and still had to wait about 1/2 hr then it booted up. I took out my usb hub and now have everything hooked directly into the mac ports and it's been starting (after waiting) on the first try but it still powers up like mentioned above.

Hmmm, what all USB devices are there attached?

When it's up & running check System Profiler for USB power requirements, like...

I took off my printer and I have a firewire drive that sometimes mounts and sometimes it dose not. Could it possibly be the video card since the screen is black till the system software loads?
