It is alreadey on your computer. The Mac OS is running on a unix kernel. Open your Terminal (Applications > Utilities) and enter the following command:

    cd ~/Destop

    vim first_test.txt

    i

    first test

    <esc> :wq

    ls

you will see the new file on your desktop: first_test.txt

But there are also some binary applications of emacs and vim, which you may install.

If you want emacs and would like a little more GUI bling than the curses-based version shipped with OSX then try Aquamacs. This gives you a Macified version of emacs. It seems to work pretty well.
