Re: IMAC G5 Model Number A1076 hard drive replacement

Re: IMAC G5 Model Number A1076.

I replaced my internal hard drive with a brand new drive. My computer is a IMAC G5 Model Number A1076.

When I insert Leopard Install Disk 1 and boot, I get to the point where I am asked to select a drive. Nothing is showing. My hard drive is not recognized.

I Inserted the Mac OS X Leopard Install disc then restarted the computer while holding the C key. When the computer finished starting up from the disc, I chose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. after selecting the language. I did not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer.

My hard drive will not show up in the disk utility menu. What am I missing?

You posted this in the Tiger forum but are using Leopard, not that it matters in this case. It should show up in Disk Utility. I would actually suggest I recommend this be moved to the G5 hardware forum. I would also help if you posted back with the exact model drive you purchased. I believe some newer SATA models are configured to work with newer computers and require special jumpering to work with older models, but I'm just recalling this from browsing the Power Mac forum.

Does it show up in Disk Utility? Is it Formatted for Mac?

1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.

2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)

Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.
