I recently got Lion and now I can't open all of my documents that were created in Appleworks. What do I do now?

AppleWorks was written for PPC (Power PC) based Macs many years ago. When Intel based Macs were introduced in 2006 Apple included a tool called Rosetta to help people who had legacy applications. It's now 5 years later and Apple is no longer supporting PPC based apps. You have several choices, first is to migrate your data to more up-to-date applications. Without knowing what apps in AppleWorks you used it's a little difficult to recommend. You can use Google to search for replacements that will open your old files or if you would like you can tell us what AppleWorks apps you used and we can begin to make recommendations for you to investigate.

The other thing you can do is to go backwards to Snow Leopard and continue to use AppleWorks.

offers solutions for those with 10.6 systems to convert their files over to 10.7 compatible applications. I wrote this before 10.7 came out, and will soon be reissuing it. You can buy an external hard drive, and install 10.6 on it, and then do the conversion there if you didn't backup your data before upgrading. If you did backup your data, just restore your backup. In the future always backup your data before doing any upgrade and ask what items may not be compatible with an upgrade before doing it. Other Lion info is here:
