What I am wondering is, how did they make all those copies of the app disappear. Was there a kill pill built in from before Apple purchased the company or did something get slipped to the app in an iOS update?

AFAIK, the app didn't "disappear"... it just stopped working.

Meaning that the app was cut off from access to the data that supplies the answers? But what about the purely local functions in the iDevice, how did they accomplish bringing a halt to all of that?

From what I read, apple stopped devices access the Siri servers that they did not want to gain access, like all of them but the iPhone 4s. That is why the app stopped working and all jail brown devices capable of Siri. Apple will probably not release an iPad2 version for the reason they will want to sell ipad2s and the ipad3 when released next year, they want people to buy those instead of have a choice and that's what apple does. Now some people might get mad because I am dissing apple but they do make one **** of a product they are just kind of greedy when it comes to stuff like this. As for me I will just get the iphone 4s to get Siri, no sense in waiting. If you don't believe me google iPad 2s and see for yourselves!

OWS is the new SOL.  Sorry, but I don't feel like wading through 64 posts of mainly whining.  IMV, Siri is mainly a toy to amuse your friends (especially if it WAS an iPad app which it isn't).

If a person is on the go with an IP and needs answers AND THEY HAVE A 3G CONNECTION, Siri can be quite useful, but dragging out an iPad to use Siri is mostly a show off stunt.

Apparently Apple bought Siri, turned the app off and then built it into iOS5 for the new IP4S. Since it worked before as an app, I predict that one of the future iOS updates will all it use to at least the IP4.

Personally I don't care if Siri is EVER available to iPad users (including myself).  However, in the meantime you can always pull up the Google app and open the mike icon.  Then you can ask your question and IF Google understands your voice, you answers will appear just like Siri except for "amusement" questions like "will I need an umbrella today".

What I don't understand about the whiner crowd is how they can pay $200, $300 or $400 for an IP, then pay the monthly phone bill and THEN be concerned about $1, $2 or whatever it is that an app might cost?

Thanks, i guess i should have clarified "ipad 2s" is going to be a new model of the ipad!

  • Dah•veed Level 7 Level 7 (32,505 points)

You should write it iPad 2S, iPad 2s looks like the plural of iPad 2!

    RIP Steve

Without him, it seems the company feels that they are suddenly allowed to "withhold software for marketing reasons". I guess they are technically allowed to do whatever they want with their iOS devises, but it truly saddens me. Steve would certainly be disappointed on how the company treats their loyal customers. If he was still around, he wouldn't let this happen.

In order to have this level of insight into what Jobs would or would not have wanted, you must have been a close personal friend, in which case, I'm sorry for your loss. Or, you're projecting your wants and desires onto a dead man, in which case this is just absurd and in poor taste.

Apple has not said anything about siri on the other devices. Siri is currently limited to Iphone 4S.

Nope, not anytime soon. I think they're waiting for the iPad 3 release. they love to make people who are loyal to them feel like idiots when they release something newer and better. They're becoming the new blackberry.
