You know Siri is the one of the iPhone 4S's most important selling point. Without that probably one fourth of the people would not buy the iPhone 4S. Still, I think after the iPhone 4S, Apple needs a selling point for the iPhone 4GS(*****) or the iPhone 5(finally!) and when an iPhone 5 comes out, they should give us FREE(KEY WORD) Siri via software update.

If that's what you think, you should let Apple know:

Care to share the NAME of the ipad2 app that runs Siri (or  a Siri-like functionality?)

in light of this thread, I think it would be an amazing bit of information...

    thank you

There was a Siri app prior to the 4S being released.  It was then discontinued/disabled and is not available anymore.  Note that the current Siri on the 4S is not an app, it is a feature built-in to the iOS.

According to this now out-of-date link, the old app for iPhone was called Siri Assistant:

Click on this image for an article from February 2010 about it:

I Have No Clue why Apple will not put Siri on any other Device of theirs, but the iPad and iPad 2 would be a good start. The iPad's have Dual Core Processers and the iPad 2 has an even Greater Processer than the first iPad. Like Pyro2008 Said "The app would run fine on most devices but they wont allow it because they want people to buy the new stuff." According to Apple its all about the Money!

Can you provide the link that backs up your statement? To my knowledge Apple has made no such statement, so at best you exaggerate your own feeble opinion and at worst, you lie. Your first line said it best, you have no clue why Apple has not released Siri for other iOS devices. Leave it at that.

What Apple has said is that Siri is beta software, a work still in progress. So perhaps Apple wants folks testing the project, but want to limit the number of folks accessing the Siri servers at this moment. BTW, Siri needs an Internet connection to work, either wi-fi or cellular and she drives up your data consumption on a cellular data plan.

Also, the iPad 1 has an Apple A4 processor, it is not dual core. The iPad 2 has the Apple A5 processor, it is dual core. At this point it is obvious you have little idea what you are talking about, you are stating misinformed opinion. Do a lot more research please before subjecting us to your wisdom again.

jonochocki ~ Here's a possible clue from Apple: "It (Siri) finds answers for you from the web through sources like Yelp and WolframAlpha." (Source) ...It would be imprudent of Apple to open up Siri to millions more devices without giving their partners some idea of what loads to expect and time to prepare. So, sensibly, Siri is currently in limited public Beta and we'll have to wait and see whether Siri is put on older devices when it leaves Beta.

  • Maraboonta Level 1 (0 points) a huge apple freak. i absolutely love all of its products and have a huge respect for the company. In fact, i am using an iPad 2 to write this.I just have one complaint. This issue rots deep inside me. THE IPAD 2 NEEDS SIRI!!!!! If people are paying for a product that STARTS at $499...IT SHOULD INCLUDE ONE OF APPLE'S FEATURE DESIGNS!!!!!!! GET WITH IT APPLE! PEOPLE WITH PRODUCTS THAT ARE $500 DOLLARS AND UP ARE YOUR REAL LOYAL CUSTOMERS!!! Apple should not make people that have already spent a fortune on an ipad 2...BUY THE IPHONE 4S!!!!! APPLE NEEDS TO GET A GRIP AND NOT EXPECT US TO SPEND A BLOODY FORTUNE ON YET ANOTHER PRODUCT THAT WILL SOON BE REPLACED. Word of advise for Apple:Give your loyal customers what they want if you want to keep them. For gosh sakes..I hear you have more money than America does to their name...Quit being greedy.

  • Dah•veed Level 7 (33,655 points)

You got your money's worth when you bought the iPad.

Apple has no obligation to you for anything in the future. Anything that Apple gives you for the iPad at this point is icing on the cake.

BTW, Apple is not here. Apple does not read here and it certainly does not respond here.

  • Matt Clifton Level 7 (29,850 points)

Dude. Relax. Nobody from Apple is here. If you do write to Apple expressing your desire for them to add Siri to the iPad, please use fewer capital letters and exclamation points, otherwise they may think you're 7 years old.

  • paulcb Level 6 (19,110 points)

Yes, but how can those that feel "entitled" react any other way?  They feel they "deserve" everything they want!

  • Maraboonta Level 1 (0 points)

Hehe sorry to upset anyone here ( which I'm kinda concerned as to why people are so mean about the comment) but that wasnt me. I think someone for some reason just decided to rant on my account.....I'm not all that sure why someone cares that much as to use someone account to rant...but they did. Just ignore my previous post....

  • bilbothejust Level 1 (5 points)

Well, I'm kind of in agreement with Maraboonta's first post, CAPS nothwithstanding. Dah-veed on the other hand comes off as either a 1%er who can afford everything new from Apple or an overly protective fanboy of Apple's moral business integrity. I have an iPhone 4 and an iPad 2. I would love to have Siri on my iPad 2 just for setting reminders and calendaring. Since I use Google stuff it populates all my devices from one. Alancito's remark that Siri would perhaps swamp services that provide information...might I remind you that people use Google milllions of times a day that draw from those very same sites, so I don't see his viewpoint as being valid.

Siri should be available on the iPad 2. It is silly not to other than to differeniate the iPhone 4s from every other iOS device. My hope is this is a temporary hold for other iOS devices. You can always buy Voice Actions in the app store for the iPhone 4 and iPad 1 or 2. Works fine now (V 1.6) and NO, I am not hawking for another product. It's just that there are and will be alternatives.

Peace out folks. This is not a flamethrower site.

  • Dah•veed Level 7 (33,655 points)

Your crass comments about who can or cannot afford whatever, are you sure that you know what you are speaking about with regard to the sites that currently provide the data Siri draws upon? Or are you making uninformed guesses and passing them off as informed?

How about links to evidence that you are not speaking through your hat?
