Problem is more likely to do with Apple Mobile, Bonjour, iPod services.

iPhone and iPod touch How to restart the Apple Mobile Device Service (AMDS) on Windows

If you have had synch issues in the past, there may be other steps, like delete some Apple folders like Lockdown, SynchServices (in AppData / Roaming / Apple) and others.

Repair install in Programs can also help. I'd say iTunes and Windows 7 seem to fght each other. Also, some issues didn't appear until installing Safari 5.1 (Apple Common Support 2.x)

Assuming that the Pod works fine and yo are using the same cable and USB port as the iPOd that connects.

- Try resetting the iPod:. Nothing will be lost.

Reset iPod touch: Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home

button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.

- Resetting all setting on the iPod: Settings>General>Reset>Reset All Settings.

All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and

calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected. m

- Try connecting to another computer to help determine/confirm it is a iPod proble.

- Place the iPod in recovery mode and then restore the iPod via iTunes. This will erase your iPod. If iTunes can't see the iPod you can't restore it so yu can't us it.
