Safari and SVG plugin

google's pages are fine using firefox, it's not a problem from them

I don't have the svg plugin & safari 2.03 just shows a blank space where the graphs should be

SVG does work with Safari: see http://www.adobe.com/svg/viewer/install/svgtest.html (if you have the plug-in installed!). You don't have to do this, but using the contextual menu, select View SVG and you'll should get the SVG graphic in a separate window, where you can zoom in and out using the contextual menu.

I don't know what the problem with the Google implementation is, but considering the generally spotty results I get with SVG (mainly using iCab), I'd guess that it's a combination of things. I did see something recently about some work that was being done with Safari and SVG but can't remember more than that.

Very strange.

I have the viewer installed and I see the three animated images on Adobe's test page using Safari, iCab, and OmniWeb. I do not see them with either Firefox or Camino, getting a box with scroll bars and an error message instead.

I can see the images on the Google Code pages using Firefox and Camino. I get black boxes using Safari, iCab or OmniWeb. If I choose View SVG from the contextual menu in Safari, iCab, or OmniWeb, I get a black box in a new window.

Opera is unique. I do not see the animated images or the box with scroll bars. The space where those appear in other browsers is blank. I get small black boxes on the Google Code page I tried.

I have the Adobe SVG plugin installed for Safari, but
the graphics don't display.

The Adobe SVG plugin seemed so ancient that I didn't want to install it. I started searching here for information on SVG and Safari because I wanted to view those Google pages also. Firefox 1.5 worked fine (a bit slow) but earlier versions didn't. Opera 8.51 (when I downloaded it) doesn't show the graphs (but it also doesn't show Opera's own SVG demo page at http://www.opera.com/features/svg/ so maybe only some versions of Opera do SVG).

I did notice that Dave Hyatt's Surfin Safari blog says in http://webkit.opendarwin.org/blog/?p=35 that SVG 1.1 is supported in the WebCore DOM, and is available in the nightly builds of WebKit. I expect that means it will probably be in the next Safari update. I sure hope so.
