How to burn a video_ts folder to a video DVD?

Hello guys,

I think that iDVD is not even required/appropriate for this, but the people visiting this particular forum will probably know most about this problem/task.

I have created a DVD using Windows video editing software - sorry 🙂 - several years ago, and all I have left from that project is the full set of VOB files. I now need to burn them on my Mac to a regular video DVD that can be played on a standard DVD player.

What I tried is simply burn the DVD in the Finder by dragging the video_ts folder to an empty DVD - but the resulting disc is obviously not a working video DVD; even the DVD Player software in OS X won't recognize it.

I know the source video_ts folder on my harddisk is complete; I can e.g. see its menu and play its content from a USB stick on a WD TV.

So what's the proper way of doing this? I'd rather not buy Toast or another piece of software, as I really just need to do this one time.

Hi

Don't really know but I would try

• in iDVD make a ver tiny project - Then Save as a DiskImage

• Open the image file on DeskTop

• replace Audio_TS and Video_TS folders with what You want instead

• then use - Disk Util tool to make a Video-DVD copy from this.

(I rather would like to use Roxio Toast™ to do this)

Bengt's idea would work, but as the TS-folder IS the video DVD, just burning it to a blank DVD should produce a playable DVD.

That is how I make copies for the family.

I also use Toast for burning, but it should also work using Disk Utility.

Thanks, guys. I’ll just try again.

I thought that specific software or settings might be required so the Mac applies the proper file system ("UDF bridge"?) when burning the disk. If you can confirm that burning the folder with Disk Utility should work out of the box, there probably was just a problem with that particular DVD.

Still not knowing enough - I do know that

The DVD You make MUST contain two folders

• Video_TS

• Audio_TS (Yes it's empty BUT must be here)

Then doing a fake image was a trick I would try to fool Disk Util tool into burning a Video-DVD and not a Data-DVD. But this is just my thoughts - and what I would have done - if I had not Toast™ to use instead.

Yes,those two folders is what a TS Folder contains.

OK, here is what finally worked:

- Create a root folder for the DVD (e.g. "movie").

- Put the VIDEO_TS (= with all .VOB files) and AUDIO_TS (= empty) folders - as Bengt and Klaus1 said, but with both folder names capitalized - into that root folder.

- Launch Disk Utilty.

- Go to "File" / "New" / "Disk Image from folder".

- Navigate to the previously created root folder ("movie") and click "OK".

- Set "Image Format" to "DVD/CD Master" and click "OK".

- This will create a mountable "movie.cdr" disk image.

- Mount this image and try to play it like a regular DVD with Apple DVD Player to ensure everything works as intended.

- Switch back to Disk Utility, insert an empty DVD, select the "movie.cdr" file and click "Burn".

Not super-intuitive, but gets the job done.
