IOS 5 make ipad1 unusable

I was burnt by the ios update on my iphone 3G a year ago, it made it slow and unusable for a very long time, eventualy I gave up on it. Is this going to happen to Ipad1 when we install IOS5? Will Apple make Ipad 1 redundant on purpose and push us all into buying Ipad2 or Ipad3?

I have a bad feeling about this and its not as if we have much choice.

You do not have to update the iOS if you don't want to do so. Obviously you will miss out on the new features that will be available in iOS 5, but you do have a choice to not update.

I have installed every update, every time there was one available - and I've never had any problems with regard to the iPad being unusable. I have had a couple of minor issues, but they were of my own making - corrupt data - which I have solved with a restore and by deleting some apps - that more than likely were responsible for the corrupt data.

You have the choice not to upgrade to iOS 5, nobody is forcing you to do so - if you don't update your iPad won't suddenly stop working. If you're concerned by the effect that it might have, then don't upgrade on the first day and wait to see what other people report about it first.

every update is recommended and every app will be updated to work specifically with IOS 5 (especially the new ones) and we get pestered constantly by the ios updates. Its not really as if its optional. Slightly different to a computer update

Not to go further OT - but Lion has been put on my back burner as well - PPC applications being part of it and the other being that I'm getting close to buying a new computer anyway, (can't make up my mind which way I want to go - iMac or a MBA) so I'll pass my current MacBook onto my wife, and she pretty much knows how to navigate with SL so I don't want to muck things up for her at this point. :)

Sure it's optional. Just don't update the apps. It's your choice. If the developer chooses to release a version of their app that requires iOS 5, that's the developer's choice and is no different from any operating system/appliation upgrade. You still have the choice not to accept the update, recommended or not.

Again, how about we wait and see how iOS 5 actually works before we get our knickers in a knot about it?

Regards.

You must realistically know its near impossible to use and IOS device without the latest software for that specific device, we have to be pragmatic about these things.

This time I will wait a bit..."once burned twice shy"
