Problem logging in with flash drive

My school uses flash drives for our user accounts. When we plug it in, the user account that it on it pops up in the log in window, and we are able to log in. Then when i come home, The user account doesn't pop up in the log in window. I tried to turn off fast user switching, but that did not do anything. How can i make the account show up?
