How do I date scanned images

Hi I have a a bunch of old photos that I will be scanning in. Once I scan them in with my cano. Scanner I will be importing them into IPhoto. How do I import the photos so that is does not put the photos in the 2011 folder and puts then under 1999?

Mac OS X (10.6.4)

What 2011 folder? Do you mean in the Finder? What version of iPhoto?

iPhoto 11 and not the finder folder but the iPhoto folder here it dates all the photos

Do you mean the Event in the iPhoto Window?

You can redate the Photos with the Photos -> Adjust Date and Time command
