How to release DHCP IP address lease?

I'm trying to figure out away to release a DHCP IP address so I can request a new DHCP address. I've tried rebooting the computer; but the computer re-grabs the same IP address. I've tried joining a joining a different wireless network, then rejoining the original network. I also tried deleting the airport interface and then creating a new airport interface.

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.6.7)

It's because the router assigns the IP address based upon your MAC address of your computer with DCHP, until it expires. You can pull the power on the router for 30 seconds or

Open your System Preferences > Network > Airport > TCP/IP (unlock) and configure IPv4 for using DHCP, this way your router assigns a IP address to your machine, renew DHCP Lease if needed or connect again for a new IP the router assigns to your machine.

It's possible it will just give you the same IP again. You can set your own, but there really isn't a need and no security advantage really it's better to let the router set the local IP this way there isn't any conflicts with other computers with the same IP as yours.

As you can deciper between 10.0.1.1 and 10.0.1.4, I have three active devices on my network after the router. 🙂
