sell my macbook air to refurbish store

I bought a macbook air 2 weeks ago. It's been so good so far but as I use a lot of Virtualization Application (VMWare, VirtualBox,...) 4GB Ram seem not enough for me. So, I'm thinking to sell it back and buy a macbook pro. I bought it from an apple reseller so i wonder if i can sell it back to Apple Refurbish Store?

Check with PowerMax.com or SmallDog.com. They offer trade ins towards purchases. MacMall.com also provides this service. They will give you an estimate of the value of your computer. You purchase the new computer, send your old one in and they will give you a credit towards future purchases or they will offer a credit on your credit card. Makes for an easy way to dispose of your old computers, etc.

From my experience a lot of these companies that offer to buy your machines give you significantly less than fair market value if you sold it yourself. But that's usually how these things work, you get the peace of mind of a hassle free transaction in exchange for a reduced sell price. Think of it like a pawn shop, although they're usually a little better than that.

For example, SmallDog.com currently offers $650 to $1350 for the MacBook Air. I suspect it's $650 for the base 11" with 2GB and $1350 for the loaded 13" with the 256GB drive and optional i7, assuming both machines are in mint condition.

Specifically with respect to Tony T1's link... note that you have 14 days to to get the return authorization. You then have 15 days to actually make the return. So, if you are close to or at the 14 day point, you still have plenty of time to make the return so long as you get the RMA number right away. You might also want to give MacMall a call and see if they'll have some flexibility as you're looking to make a new purchase as well.

HOW TO RETURN PRODUCTS: Please contact MacMall within 14 days of shipment for a Return Authorization (RA) number before returning your product to MacMall. No returns of any type will be accepted without a RA number. For faster service, please have the following information on hand when calling for an RA number: customer name, order number, item number and serial number and the reason for the return. Once an item arrives at MacMall, we will immediately send a replacement or issue a refund. Returns must be made within 15 days of Return Authorization being provided.
