I purchased some songs on my computer they are showing up in my iPad but not my iPod why?

iCloud has started working. Yesterday I bought two songs on my desktop computer at work and they downloaded automatically to my iPAD but I had to download them to my iPod. I would prefer the reverse to be true. However, today I purchased more songs and they appeared and downloaded to my iPAD but I don't see them at all on my iPOD not even to download them. Why is that? I am aware iCloud is in beta, but I didn't ask for this it just happens when I purchase something. Will there be a way to prevent automatic download of songs to my iPAD but to allow automatic downloads of songs to my iPOD?

Thanks for the response. That was helpful. However, I still want to know why did the songs I purchased yesterday appear on my IPod for downloading but the those I purchased today did not? After you rassistance I went to settings and turned on automatic downloading for my ipod. So if it wasn't enabled yesterday, how was I able to see the purchases I made yesterday on my computer on the ipod and then download them to the ipod? That is what I expected to see today but all I was seeing were the songs I purchased yesterday and not the ones I did today.
