Spyware?

How do I know if my iPhone 4 is bugged with spyware? How can I clean it up completely? Do you have a recommended anti-spyware software?

The link was not the specific program that was used. I'm not asking a question of if I was hacked, I'm asking how to ensure I've eradicated the encrypted software. There are no assumptions involved, it is a fact that the software was used on both my android and my iPhone (which I only bought because I fell hook line and sinker for similar lines I was fed by the instore techies after I realized my android had been hacked, though I glad i jumped on the bandwagon as Apple is definitely the way to go). I was hacked, a program was used, and messages, calls, pictures and videos were most definitely stumbled upon and discovered while doing some snooping of my own; only, since I was reeling at the time, I didn't happen to write down the name of the program on a post-it so I scoured the internet myself for similar software in attempt at finding it and this was the closest thing to what I saw with my own eyes.

I'm not here to scaremonger or ruffle feathers for that matter, I'm here for legitimate advice from someone who is educated as to the current programs scouring the internet that enable one to stalk another.

He receintly jailbroke my son's phone and I am trying to figure out what all he truly has access to. Is it possible for him to listen to conversations remotly using some of the spyware listen in this conversation?

Possibly, since it was JB. If it were me, I would first change the Apple ID password and then restore the device as new, i.e. WITHOUT the backup. This will make it factory fresh. If it restores properly, you should be OK. Since it's been jailbroken, it may not restore properly. Good luck.

You can put a passcode on it but your child will need to know it and could be put in an untenable position by the father. I'd suggest you put a Restriction password on it and not give it to your child. While you are in there doing that turn off in-app purchases. http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4213

This will not prevent the father from jailbreaking the phone, there is nothing that will do that, but If your child returns and the restriction password you set is no longer valid you will know the phone has been jailbroken. Options for jailibreaking 7.1 are now limited and cannot be done if the phone is Activation Locked. Make sure that you have turned on Find My iPhone in Settings > iCloud and do not give your child the Apple ID password while they are vistiting their father.

I don't know of any jurisdiction that would take any criminal case for jailbreaking an iPhone especially given these circumstances but you could get a restraining/protective order from a court forbidding him from handling the iPhone.

If you plug it into iTunes and click on the app tab, you can see every app that's installed on the phone. If it's not jailbroken, there is no way to hide anything. Any app to do something like that would have to come through the app store and it would have to be tied to the Apple ID registered on the phone.

Protect your passwords. Passcode lock your phone. You won't have any problems.

Once again, for the people in the back row.

Unless you have jailbroken your phone, it is NOT POSSIBLE to install ANY program that is not from the Apple App Store. Apple does not allow apps that "spy" on the owner. The only such app it has is the "Find my iPhone" feature, which is intended for you to locate your own device, and this can be turned on and off on the device itself, using your passcode.

If you would like to post back with evidence of one of these "plenty of 3rd party apps" that does NOT require jailbreaking, feel free.

People will argue about the pros and cons of the iPhone's "walled garden" software environment, but enhanced security is definitely one of its major advantages.

Misleading and incorrect information is not helpful to anyone.

Once an iphone has been jailbroken and a spyware such as Flexispy has been installed, you can hide all of the jailbroken icons. This is a part of the Flexispy install process. The whole thing takes less than ten minutes.

My question is: Is there a way to find out if a phone is currently jailbroken? In other words, I didn't jailbreak my phone---I want to find out if someone else that had access to it did and hid/uninstalled the Cydia icons. I DO NOT want to have to restore the phone.

Could it be something as simple as an extra line/symbol/whatever in a file system name somewhere? Type in *3412 (whatever it may be), and if XYZ happens, the phone is jailbroken, etc.

Thanks in advance.

You actually know somebody who might have spent $349 to spy on your phone? Are you related to the Obama family?

Wipe it and restore it.

If you found cydia on the phone, it is definitely jailbroken.

Your phone can not be discussed here. Discussing jailbroken/hacked devices is a violation of the Terms of Use on these forums.

You can try restoring the phone using iTunes, but it is not always possible to revert to a pristine state. You may also find that your phone becomes a brick when you attempt to restore it.

Hi

No problem, glad to help. Connect your phone to your computer with the cable, launch iTunes, and when it appears in the device list, click Restore on the right-hand side. It will connect to Apple's servers and download/install the official latest firmware version. This will wipe out all apps and data (make sure you have backups if need be), including undoing jailbreaking, and removing any apps which have been added after jailbreaking.

I have an iPhone 4S. My ex-boyfriend subscribed to a monthly "spyware": he could read my tests, monitor my phone calls and view my Yahoo Messenger chats. My iPhone is NOT jailbroken. I called my wireless subscriber and the only thing they suggested was to change my phone #. If you google "cheating spouses" all types of spyware is listed. How can I prevent myself from this?
