Using a mini DisplayPort to HDMI cable with thunderbolt

I have a macbook pro with a thunderbolt port and and was looking online for a way to connect the computer to the TV. I found a "mini DisplayPort to HDMI" cable and I was wondering if 1) will the cable work with the thunderbolt port and 2) will the cable carry audio as well as video?
