moving from firefox to safari

I give up. I've used FF since the early days - before Safari even understood how to do tabs - but the latest versions keep taking over my CPU and causing all sorts of problems. I've been reluctant because I've got tons of bookmarks and especially my saved passwords but I think it's finally time. I've noticed for a long time that Safari's performance is at least the equal of FF and it does tabs just fine. I don't know what has happened to Firefox, but I hope they fix it. I just don't have the patience to wait any longer.

Is there an easy way to move everything from FF to Safari? That includes my saved passwords, of course.

Your passwords are stored in Keychain Access which is located in /Applications/Utiliteies, not your browsers.

You can transfer Firefox Bookmarks to Safari.

Launch Firefox. From the menu bar click Bookmarks / Organize Bookmarks

Click the Star icon in the menu then click Export HTML

Save that file to your Desktop for easy access.

Now launch Safari.

From the menu bar click File / Import Bookmarks. Navigate to the bookmarks.html file you saved to the Desktop then click Import.

Now make sure Safari is setup to autofill your passwords.

From the Safari menu bar click Safari / Preferences then select the Autofill tab.

Select: User names and passwords

well, the bookmark export/import worked, although the menus on the latest version of FF don't quite match your instructions.

passwords are another matter. I did a little more research. FF doesn't use Keychain by default. FF needs a plugin call Keychain Services Integration to use Keychain. Supposedly this gives both FF and Safari access to the same database. Unfortunately I haven't gotten it to work completely yet. I installed the FF plugin and there was a conversion. If I look at stored passwords in Safari everything is there and all the boxes are checked but but I can't get the autofill to work for the imported usernames. I do get autofill for the ones created in Safari. Strange it only works for some of them.
