I want an iPad 2 REALLY bad, but my guardian wants to know what i would do with it. I got the idea of getting one from my iPad wielding friends, and he had a lot of school productive apps, as well as a few games. Could someone please give me a list of the things I can use an iPad 2 for? I know you can read up on the daily news(my uncle is always mad that I don't know what is happening in the world.) We don't have a TV, but we have wifi, so that helps me get my homework done. But I take the bus to school, and it is 2 hours a day that I could be typing a paper when I'm just sitting there, staring out the window. PLEASE HELP!!!

Why don't you just go do some simple product research?

I often spend hours on the Apple page on youtube or on apple.com drooling over the iPad 2, so I know what the iPad is capable of, but my uncle wants a direct list of what I could do with one, like create a powerpoint for a presentation, or make a video on why not to use drugs for my health class(I am a high schooler, so these are things i have to do for homework anyways). I need a list of how an iPad would help my school work.

Be aware. The iPad does not support Flash which is required for most YouTube content.

From an educators perspective >  http://www.apple.com/education/why-apple/

    You need Keynote for presentations.

A nice device, but nowhere near as usable as a computer.  IF you don't have a laptop, get a MacAir instead and learn something about the world.

A MacAir is a nice device but it's nowhere nears usable as a Jeep.

Get a Jeep and learn about the world.

"A nice device, but nowhere near as usable as a computer."

    ???

It is not a direct replacement Of a computer to do everything a computer does but it's not supposed to be so your comment is moot (irrelevant).

I would respectfully disagree in this case (the OP).  Sounds like he doesn't have access to a computer and is trying to justify getting an iPad for school work (read games).

Yes, I think the iPad is a great device and I'm very happy with mine, but I wouldn't try to snow someone into getting me one that I could use for school tasks.  Give me a break.  I'm sticking with a easy to carry laptop for ACTUAL school work, be it a MacAir or one of the many Window laptops that are lightweight.

    Okay

but I wouldn't try to snow someone into getting me one that I could use for school tasks.

Why do you think you would be getting "snowed"?

It can be used for school tasks but you would rather use a laptop? Okay. No problem.

Okay but many users stick to an easy to carry iPad for ACTUAL school work.

So why tell him to get a laptop when he wants to play games on an iPad?

    Never mind.

I know the iPad does not have flash, I know you have to buy a $5 app for presentations, and IDON'TWANTALAPTOP!  I want an iPad 2, but my uncle wants to know how I could use it to help me in school. I just want someone to help me make a list of what i could use an iPad for to my scholastic advantage. I could use an iPad to make presentations, I could write a paper with on the way to school, and I can read a book that my english teacher recommended. I am open to spending money on apps, so please help me make a list on what an iPad could do to help my school work.

You can do whatever any of the apps in the App Store allow you to do.  Do some product research yourself, search the app store, research the apps and make your own list.  You could have had one done by now.

P.S.  Your uncle sounds like a real stick in the mud.

    You can...

    • read the daily news
    • type a paper on the way to/from school
    • create a powerpoint for a presentation
    • make a video on why not to use drugs for your health class
    • read a book that your English teacher recommended
    • take it outside at night and look up astronomy objects
    • use it for chemistry, physics, math
    • history, geography, geology
    • Study the human body
    • use over 350,000 free lectures, videos, books, and podcasts from learning institutions all over the world
    • learn a foreign language
    • take notes in class

    and on and on.

    See this -> http://www.apple.com/education/apps/

That helps a bit. I forgot about foreign languages(I am learning german, and I am almost going to fail the class).

And yes, my uncle is a stick in the mud. He keeps trying to pursuade me to get a Blackberry playbook, but I won't be moved from my wanting an iPad. He would say stuff like, "Hey look at this. iPad doesn't have flash!" and I woould respond with"Skyfire is an app that allows you to use flash on websites."" Then he'd come back with"iPad doesn't support documents." I would come back again with"DocumentToGo will let me view and edit documents." I always win the conversation because I am well read up on many apps, and my friend showed me some things that he has on his iPad so I can buy stuff and already know how to use them.

I have 2 crazy sisters(ages 16 and 17), and they do random things. I often wish I had a camera so I can post what they do on facebook, or make a movie on what I have to deal with 24/7, and post that on youtube.

Sounds like your mind is made up. If you are buying the iPad then just go do it. If you are asking your uncle to buy it then ask him for the money then go buy it. He will then be out of the decision. If he is buying it and you will be a secondary user, be thankful and let him spend his money the way he wants to.

I've used many brands of tablets and truthfully none is significantly better than another, imo.
