I pre-ordered the iPhone 4S on Verizon through the Apple website, and I want to know how I can activate it when it arrives in the mail... Will it already be activtated as soon as I turn it on, or will I have to connect it to my computer and go through iTunes?
The 4S will have ios5 on it. ios5 can be activated without a computer.
Did you see the keynote? That was a major point when they talked about ios5
Yes, I did in fact see the Keynote, but that still doesn't clarify exactly how I activate the phone without iTunes.
When you get your shiny new iPhone, simply turn it on with the button on the top of the phone, once it is one you will be prompted to set up your iPhone without having to plug it into the computer

the ifone 4s will be ready to use as soon as u get it turn it on anf follow waht the ifone tells you to do.

Thanks for that helpful video, but what I'm confused about is the phone activation, not the setup.
Traditionally, Verizon has provided a phone number to call to activate phones. This leads to an automated process. But neither I nor anyone else in this forum knows if the iPhone will be different.

One purpose of the phone call is to accept the Terms and Conditions of the contract. That will still have to happen. iPhones also activate differently than other phones and, the iPhone 4S will possible activate differently even from the iPhone 4. It's going to be an adventure. 😉
