Is it possible to change the Magic Mouse to the Trackpad?

I have bought a new iMac and got the Magic Mouse. Is it possible to change it to the Trackpad for free?

Thanks!

iMac, Mac OS X (10.7.1), Magic Mouse Trackpad

When did you receive your imac? Within 14 days of receiving it, you can exchange it / return it. You will have to call Apple to see if you can simply exchange the mouse for the track pad. However, because your order is coded as an entire package, they might ask you to return everything and place a brand new order. They would send someone to pickup the iMac at your house for free. Of course, you can set up the appointment with the company that will pick it up, so that the pick up will take place after the new iMac has arrived. That is what I did - but my reason was different - the iMac came with a scratch on the screen.

Seriously, 3 Euros for the phone call is nothing if you likely just spent well over 1000 Euros for your imac.

Of course, if you have an Apple Store near you, you could go there with your receipt and see if they will just exchange the mouse for the trackpad. But, I'm not sure if they will do that since your official order code is for an iMac with a mouse.

Other than that, you do not have any options to change it for free.

In my opinion - the track pad is a lot better than the mouse. I actually ordered both when I bought my imac online, and my mouse has never been used. I might try and sell it and at least get some money for it.

Yeah - same here. I wasn't going to return my entire iMac just to get one with a trackpad only (instead of the one I have with mouse + track pad). I'll just sell the mouse.

Buy a trackpad. You'll like it better than the mouse. I also use the "Better Touch Tool" app by Andreas Hegenberg. It allows you to set up even more gestures. It also works with the mouse, but it really shines with the trackpad. It's free, so just google it. I do things like switching between tabs in Safari, closing tabs, open a new tab, closing windows, quitting apps, opening a Finder window etc. - all with gestures on the trackpad. I also use it to set up my Apple remote to be used with VLC. It is a very nice app, and like I said, it is worth having especially if you own a trackpad.

When purchasing online, you can configure your Mac: http://store.apple.com/us/configure/MC309LL/A?select=select&product=MC309LL%2FA& mco=MjIwNTQ2NTk

if you look at the section about "Mouse and Magic Trackpad" you'll see the available options.

I guess if you ordered your iMac with the default configuration you cannot change it 😟

But try to contact Apple, who knows...
