It says in the apple TV requirements, "airport extreme". does it have to be airport extremem or can it just be a normal wifi system? (i assume airport extreme is wifi)

The exact wording of the network requirements for the current-generation Apple TV are:

    • Wi-Fi (802.11 a, b, g, or n) wireless network (wireless video streaming requires 802.11a, g or n) or 10/100BASE-T Ethernet network

The "Airport Extreme" is one of Apple's own WiFi router products, but the Apple TV will work with any WiFi network that meets the above requirements.
