Lion Mac Mail will not send

Suddenly and without any apparent reason, Mac Mail refused to send mail from my Mac Pro (I am able to send without problem using the MobileMe web mail app).

Seems it won't connect to the outgoing mail server, even though it is correct and as it always has been.

Any clues?

Thanks!

Hi i get the same kind of erros. After installing lion some mails arn't send properly. Suddenly mail or mayby lion has changed the smtp server .

choosing some other smtp servers and keeps popping up with error alerts that it can't find the proper server or can't connect to server of mobile me.

Deleting some of the used smtp servers but the problem keeps coming back after restarting the mac.

Has anyone foud a permanent fix to this yet? I have been trying everything I can think of all day. It had been workinf fine since I bought the laptop and upgraded to Lion the first of the year but it just stopped sending any mail from any account this morning.

I have 2 accounts and do not want to loose any email by deleting the accounts and starting over, from what I have read this was only a temp fix.

I have tried many different configurations in the mail account preferances and the smtp configuration edit

Still can't send emails. Seem to be receiving emails ok.

I have OUTLOOK Mac and hated it and went through all the hassle and many hours of changing all my emails over to mail and importing them

I also have an old G5 iMac with Entourage and it is working fine???

Please help me

Thanks

Pmurdock Thanks for the reply, I wish it would of been so easy but a no go, I have tried taking both accounts on and off line to no avail.

I tried replacing the Keychain passwords and that didn' work either.

Mail Connection Doctor keeps trying and failing the send and making connections on the receive side.

Here is a sample of what Connection Doctor says:

It pretty much just repeats the same "wrote" PASS or QUIT.

I would just delete the accounts and start from scratch again but I don't want to loose all my emails.

Do I just export everything out and then import back into a new account?

Really Frustrating!

Apr 20, 2012 11:48 AM in response to rkaufmann87

It doesn't!!

But here's the fix:

The issue stems from changing your MobileMe password.

Change it back to the OLD password in Mail/Preferences/Outgoing mail server

Apple Mail then begins to send (or sometimes actually sends) the message.

But then you get a dialogue box that you have inputted the wrong MobileMe password.

You then input the new (correct) password as instructed.

This generates a new MobileMe server line in the smtp server list -- and it is not grayed out as it was previously.

Mail works fine after that.

Lion Mac Mail will not send
