Does the insurance cover broken or cracked screens?
I dropped my ipod only once and it cracked big time, does the insurance cover my cracked screen. If not what do I do?

If it's actual insurance, check its policy. If it's the limited warranty or AppleCare, no; those are not insurance policies.

No, you will need to pay for the repair. Contact a third-party iPod repair service via Google. It will be cheaper to fix than through Apple.

A bit of info from my experience.
I have a 64GB iTouch 4th gen and had a violent drop about 5 months ago, which cracked the screen on the bottom corner. Fortunately the touchscreen still worked and the crack ran across the screen. I bought the iTouch off eBay refurbished so I naturally assummed it was not under warranty or it was void. I was meaning to replace the screen myself or get an expensive repair job done but just procrastinated since it was still working. Fast forward to Nov 2, 2011 a friend noticed it was cracked and wonder why I havent repaired it, I told him the story and he said to check if it was still under warranty online. We ran the serial number and to my crazy luck it was still under warranty until Nov 3, 2011! One day left!
I immediately made an appointment and went into the local Apple Store on Nov 3rd. Told them the story and they replaced it with a brand new one. Was really impressed that they replaced it without me bugging them or complaining about the cracked screen. Definitely made me a believer that they really do their best to retain loyal customers. I ended up buying the additional year warranty for the new iTouch they gave, it was a no brainer.
My suggestion would be to go online and check the serial number if it is still under warranty. If not than you'll have to fork the cash on your own for the repair job. Hopefully my luck passes to you.
Good luck.
