Q: Blue lines all across the display and external monitor (not mirrored)

Hi

I have a Powerbook G4 15" running OSX 10.4.11.  For the last 6 months my mac monitor has displayed blue lines running right across the screen, making it unbearable to use.  I connect the mac to an external monitor and expected the blue lines not to come up on the external monitor but they do.  I've not got "mirrored" on so I'm wondering how to fix this?  I thought it was just my monitor that was stuffing up, but is this something to do with a video/graphics card and so all displays will have the blue lines?  Please help as I'd still like to use this mac to run but the display is terrible and kind of useless.  If anyone does know the problem and that it would require some professional fixing, how much roughly would it cost?

Thank you very much for any help.

This sounds like a graphics chip or graphics memory problem, especially if it shows on both the lid display and the external display.  You can probably verify this by running Apple Hardware Test, which should either be on its own CD or on the original install/restore disc, depending on the flavor of PowerBook G4 you have.  It the computer is a Titanium model, you can find a burnable disc image of the AHT disc at this link if you have misplaced the original AHT disc.

Unfortunately, the only cure is likely a logic board replacement at this point, since graphics is part of the logic board circuitry.
