iMovie 9 cannot create new project

I was having trouble with iLife '11 not recognizing files to be imported. I tried to create a new project, just to see what happens, and it said "Please check the disk to ensure there is enough free space and you have permission to write projects.". I have 45GB of free space - that is not an issue. I have repaired permisions on the disk and re-installed iLife '11. Still getting the same error. I'm running MacOS 10.7.1 on an alumninum MacBook. Any suggestions?

Did you upgrade your computer to 10.7.1? I've read one case so far on the Apple iMovie Discussion Group where someone upgraded and had an error of QuickTime components missing. It eventually required a re-install of the OS to get iMovie up and running.

I found the problem. A while back, under a previous version of iMovie, I had moved the iMovie Library to an external hard drive. There were still (broken) symbolic links to that library where the actual library should have been. As soon as I fixed that, it started working.

Nice to know it was a simple fix like that. It is hard sometimes to remember some oddball change we might have made once that made complete sense but later utterly sabotages something you are trying do. I've shot myself in the foot more than once. Good Luck!
