Modify workout template

OK, I'm sure this is a stupid question, but I can't find anything when I google it. I'm trying to use the Workout template in Numbers and want to change the types of activity. I don't swim but do more bodyweight type activities, i.e. Pushups or pull ups etc. I can't find a data validation set where I can go in and change the activity type.

It may seem complicated but actually is quite easy.

Step 1:

  • Go to your home folder
  • Applications
  • iWork
  • Numbers - Right click -> Show package contents
  • Contents->Resources->Templates
  • Find "Workout Tracker.nmbtemplate"
  • Copy it to your desktop (So that you do not mess with the original)

Step 2:

  • On your desktop file now, right click and show package contents
  • Contents
  • Resources
  • en.lproj

The file "Localizable.strings" is what you are looking for.

Step3:

  • Open "Localizable.strings" with Text Edit
  • This is the source file of your template
  • cmd - F to search for words
  • If you want to replace for example "swimming" with "push ups" replace all the "swimming" words in the file with "push ups".

One example:

"TABLE_CELL_Swimming" = "Swimming"; will be replaced by "TABLE_CELL_Swimming" = "Push ups";

Caution: Change only the right hand side attributes!

And that's it!

I dont know if there is a faster way, but i have checked this one and it works.

Hope i helped you.

Hi MH,

Here's what I would suggest in your case...

  • Open a New Workout Template
  • In the "Summary" Sheet, "Workout Summary" Table, Click on the "Swimming" Cell, hover over the "Row 4" label and click the menu triangle: Choose "Delete Row"

That will eliminate the Swimming category from your pie chart.

To add exercises to the "Workout Log" table in the "Weight Training" Sheet, do the following...

  • Determine the "Muscle Group" that you want to add an exercise to and click one of the cells in that table.
  • Click the first Row Label for the group and then Shift-Click the second label for that double-row item.
  • Command-C
  • Option-DownArrow
  • Command-V
  • Edit the specific exercise entry for that muscle group in your new row pair.

When you are done making additions, File > Save as Template.

Best regards,

Jerry

thanks for the info, but is there an easier way, within the spreadsheet created from the template, to simply replace exercises I don't do (Rowing Machine replacing Swimming, for example), and then add additional activities to the 4 listed in Workout Summary and available in the drop-list in the Activity table? Ex. adding Yoga to the list/table(s).

Or should I just look for a different Workout tracking template, or build my own?

Thank you!

I was having similar trouble, but I'm pretty sure I just figured it out!

To change the pull-down menu for the 'Activity' column in your 'Workouts' table,

1. Highlight all of the body cells in the column by selecting the first in the column, SHIFT, then select the last in the column.

2. Go to 'Cells' in your Inspector (fourth from the left at the top)

3. Under 'Cell Format', it should say 'Pop-up Menu'; if it doesn't for some reason, select that option.

4. Select the activities listed that you do not want to show up in your menu and click the minus sign to delete them.

5. Click the addition sign to add as many activity types as you'd like

This should apply to all of the cells you highlighted. You will also need to change the activities in your 'Workout Summary' table to reflect these changes in the table and charts. Hopefully this answers your question better.

Good luck!

Lauren
