My Macbook Pro will only Safe boot and is stuck on caps lock after a coffee spill

I accidently spilt a cup of coffee on my Macbook Pro a couple of weeks ago turning it off instantly which, when told, made the apple support guy say my "logic board" was gone and irrepairable. However I left it for 48 hours and on turning it back on it booted in "safe boot" and would only type in capitals. I plugged another keyboard in and that worked with lowercase but I didn't know how to get the computer off Safe boot and therefore left it for a week.

I turned it on again two days ago and all seemed to be fine and normal and working until today when everytime I opened a new tab in firefox it would open in a new window and the finder windows/itunes opened/closed/minimized very slowly. I restarted the computer and it again went to Safe Boot/the capslock issue.

Help?

Water damages logic boards and keyboards. Water also voids warranties.

Running it at all after the damage was probably unwise.

If you bought AppleCare, it will not cover this damage. You could try replacing parts yourself (another poster turned his MBP into a desktop-spanning Franken-MBP. But until Apple clears the unit with an authorized repair, they could deny any future repairs about display/ports even if you get it running.

Others have reported an initial "diagnosis fee" of about $750. MB could be more or included in that. Keyboard could be damaged as well.

Good luck.

Some liquid has just spilled into your Mac. What should you do?

Do

  • Immediately shut down the computer and unplug the power cord.
  • Remove the computer's battery if it's a portable Mac.
  • Disconnect any peripherals (printers, iPods, scanners, cameras, etc.)
  • Lay the computer upside down on paper towels to get as much liquid as possible to drip out.
  • Note what was spilled on your Mac.
  • Bring the computer into an Apple store or AASP as soon as possible.

Don't

  • Don't try to turn it back on. Liquids can help electrical current move about the components of your Mac in destructive ways.
  • Don't shake the computer (this will only spread the liquid around).
  • Don't use a hair dryer on it (even at a low setting a hair dryer will damage sensitive components).

Hi, it sounds like my macbook pro is doing the same thing... I spilled tea on it and it didn't turn on but I tried again a month after and it turned on. It starts up as a white screen that loads and then into safe boot, but won't let me log on, probably due to keyboards being stuck. I plan on trying again with an external keyboard..

Did you end up bringing your macbook for repair?
