Delete Photostream Photos off iCloud

On my ipad i love to take pictures and i also like that they get streamed to all devices! I'm just missing the delete button! I can't delete any of the photos that are streamed! Is there any way this is possible? It would mean deleting the photo off the icloud server which most likely requires some utility! I just want to get rid off some photos i take!

iPad 2, Other OS, IOS 5 GM

Near as I can find, if you log into iCloud.com froma computer ( you gt a different page if you log I from amigos device) the go to e settings, there's an option to reset the photo stream which erases all the photo stream pictures from the cloud.

Then on each iOS device you need to go t the settings for iCloud, the turn off photo stream. You get a warming that this will erase all photos in the photo stream on the local device. Myou can turn it on again if you like. That gets rid of them.

The one place I have yet to figure it how to remove the cloud stream pictures is the copy in iPhoto on my Mac.

Look at me, look at me...

(actually read what I have to say)

Start by understanding one thing:

Photo Stream is an album.

Then understand two big limitations:

  • This album can only hold one thousand (1,000) photos.
  • This album can only hold photos taken within the last thirty (30) days.

Finally, understand two very small limitations:

  • Photos inside this album CANNOT be edited.
  • Photos inside this album CANNOT be deleted.

What is the point of a non-deletable collection of photos in the cloud?

One of the huge benefits of digital photography is you can shoot as much asyou like, and just delete the pictures that you don't like later.

With photostream, it's like going back the old film days where when youshoot a roll of film and you are stuck with every shot, whether the subject blinked/moved/whatever.

This has to be one of the least well though out product from Apple in a longtime (and that is saying a lot given some recent decisions with Lion, etc)

Let's not make it even harder for people...

This seems to be the best practice for solving this problem. Yes it seems like it's either a huge oversight on apples part (unlikely), an intentional way to encourage a particular behaviour (possibly), or a technical shortcoming they judged as not important enough to hold up a release, and will be corrected in the future (likely, but time will tell).

On thing we can all do it be sure to submit feedback about this issue to Apple, to make sure they see the demand for a delete from all of us imperfect humans. If not when they come out with the next mac that does't have a backspace key, it'll be all our fault 😉

I don't think we have the option of chosing what photos we will keep in the Photostream folder. Deleting them with iExplorer (a program that you install in your Mac) doesn't work because the photos are stored in iCloud.com. So to delete "all" photos you have to do the following:

1) on your iPhone go to Settings >> Photos and turn "off" Photo Stream. It will tell you that all photos will be deleted from you iPhone device. Don't turn it back on again.

2) Acces your account at iCloud.com

3) When logged in you will see your name at the top of the page on the right, click on your name. Click on the Advanced option and then click on the Reset Photo Stream button. That's it.

4) Now you can go back on you iPhone Settings >> Photos and turn "on" Photo Stream.

Now all your unwanted and wanted photos are gone.

Sorry there is no option to delete only the unwanted photos at least for now.

Hope this helps! It did for me.

This is a joke. I can’t delete picture from photo stream. Really? I recently purchased an iPad 2 and I bought an iPhone 4s today and by far the biggest disappointment by far is photo stream. the i Pad 2 is running iOS 5 also. Apple can’t seem to make photo management between their devices simple. They are great with other things, but this is one that they just can seem to get right. It is already hard enough to delete the photos off of the device when not in photo stream, but from all the reading I have done it is a mission to get this done when referring to photostream. I have tried logging into icloud.com to clear out photo stream, but it keeps erroring out. All I want to do it be able to add and remove folders and the photos in them and not have them all be attached to the camera roll once I have moved the photos to another folder. Apple needs to realize with photostream that not every picture we take needs to be kept for 30 days. Some are not appropriate or others just came out lousy. We don’t need them all. Please let us choose. If you are trying to force users to max out their free cloud storage just so you can get them to pay you for more space, there are better ways of doing it, while not thoroughly ******* off your users, and making them feel like they have no control over their data. This is one of the main reasons why most people are so apprehensive to jump into the cloud. You are just going to scare more people away from the idea when they hear that they cannot delete their photos for 30 days, and even then, it looks like too tall of an order for the normal user to figure out. It is a useless feature to me if I cannot control the content that I want to keep in the cloud. I love my iPhone and iPad 2 but this is not enticing me to continue migrating my data to the cloud. It does not seem like it would be too difficult to fix this problem with an update, so hopefully enough people complain about this issue so Appple will change the way this feature works. I was also curios as to why my iPad 2 doesn’t get weather updates like the iPod and the iPhone do with iOS 5? Please make photostream more user friendly. Thank you.
