disable the ipad power button for use in museum

Hello..

i currently work for a museum in Germany. We decided to use iPads in our next exhibition. The visitor can take the iPad and turn the pages in iBooks. To prevent leaving the application, we will cover the home button with a piece of acrylic glass. Our aspiration is to keep the feel of an iPad, thats why we decided against a complete cover. Our only problem left, is the Homebutton, which is free accessible. Can we either remove the function somehow, preventing the visitor to turn the iPad off or do we have to cover it physically?

thanks & best regards

hi everyone,

sorry for the "late" answer..

the exhibtion is over. we covered the home and power button physically. we left a hole for a curved up paper clip if the ipad gets stucked, to get access to the buttons.

in october, we will use the ipads again in an exhibition. the feature "guided access" in ios 6 seems to solve all our problems. you can disable the buttons there.

for now we disabled the home button via configuration profile: http://zchristopoulos.com/2012/02/how-to-disable-ipad-home-button-kioskstore-dem o-mode/ but you can still power on/off the device and switch between the apps through links in the application. so we have to wait for ios 6 / use the ios 6 beta.
